Most of us have heard of “compounding interest” made famous by Albert Einstein
“Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it earns it … he who doesn’t … pays it.”
I think we should apply the same principle to our health and fitness. Imagine applying a 1% improvement to your health and fitness every day over a very long period. If you are starting from scratch and you begin to walk 5 minutes every day and you increase this by just 1 % each day you will have made a 37% improvement in 12 months. HUGE
We don't like the long game.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have a passion for health and fitness from a very young age. It never felt like an effort to go for a run or to get to the gym. I’ve been doing it for years. I would run before school everyday other day when I was 13. My parent’s friends would comment to my mum and dad how they saw me on their way to work running around the streets. I’ve never been a gifted athlete, I was always above average and I worked hard.
I have watched others play the long game with their finances and their career and do extremely well but at the expense of their health. I haven’t been as disciplined at this part of the game but I feel if you have your health you can outwork most over a lifetime.
I believe that compounding should be applied to all things you truly care about. I am now playing the long game with every important aspect of my life. For me, it's the big three. Health, Wealth, and Relationships.
What’s your long-game plan?
“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can achieve in 10.”
Happy training
