According to a recent survey, the top three most common New Year's resolutions are, Losing weight, Exercise more, Improve diet.
Most people start their New Year with a resolution. And it’s typically related to health in some way.
Lose Weight
Exercise More
Improve Diet
Quit Smoking
Reduce alcohol
I’m not a huge fan of New Year's resolutions. I don’t see the point in waiting to start the New Year to focus on your health. The best time to start anything was yesterday the second best time is today.
Most people set goals way too high and when they don’t see the results as quickly as they had hoped, they give up and go right back to where they were. Set small realistic, achievable goals and build them into daily/weekly/monthly habits.
Motivation comes from seeing progress. When you see the smallest amount of progress you get excited and are more likely to want to do more of the same to reach the next level.
Time and time again new athletes that joined our track club were super excited. They rushed out and bought all the new gear and would be the first person at training and ready to go. But after a few weeks, they would slowly be less excited and eventually disappear. They would see other athletes running so well and they wanted to be that person overnight. They never stopped to realize some of our athletes had been running for 20 years or more doing the same thing over and over again. They wanted all the benefits of 20 years of work in a few weeks. What I call the “Nescafe lifestyle”. Instant. 🥤
Set small goals: I’m going to commit to walking or running 2-3 times per week for 10-20 minutes. Do this for a week then build it up to 30 minutes.
Your health is a long-term lifestyle choice. Not some overnight quick fix that you only think about once per year. You only get one body for life. Take good care of it. 😍
Make small attainable choices.
Eat less sugar per day.
Drink 2 more glasses of water.
Meditate for 1 minute in the morning.
Set your alarm to get up 15 minutes earlier every day.
Walk for 10 minutes after each meal.
Set small attainable goals that you can achieve and build into your daily life. Before you know it, things will start to improve and you will see big progress.
Happy New year
Make 2024 your best year yet.
